Taijul Islam and Shuvagata Hom are set in the squad for Twenty20 Internationals
After being whitewashed in three ODIs of ANZ Series by New Zealand, Bangladesh are now ready for Twenty20 International series on Tuesday (January 3, 2017) at Napier against New Zealand. Left arm spinner Taijul Islam and Allrounder Shuvagata Hom joined in the Twenty20 squad.
Taijul Islam is a regular bowler in Test arena and he also played only 4 ODIs, so he has yet to make his debut in the games’ shortest format. Habibul Bashar, the former captain of Bangladesh and selector said on the left armer Taijul Islam, “Taijul is a proven performer and has done well in recent Bangladesh Premier League.”
“So, we thought he could be effective alongside Shakib Al Hasan in Twenty20 format,” said Bashar, who defended the inclusion of Shuvagata, adding he is a “utility allrounder”.
Paceman Subashis Roy is the only other player in the squad who has not played any Twenty20 International. The second and third Twenty20 internationals of the series will be held respectively on January 6 and 8 at Mount Maunganui. Bangladesh will also play two tests against the Blackcaps during the visit.
